Studio Saturday with Brandon Lewis: Brushstrokes of Heritage

The Louisiana Art & Science Museum (LASM) will hold its next Studio Saturday Art Workshop on Saturday, July 20, from 10 AM to noon. The painting workshop featuring local artist Brandon Lewis will delve into the art of storytelling through personal heritage. Lewis aims to create an immersive exploration of creativity by uncovering unique pathways to celebrate individual narratives while honing the creative processes of the participants.

Brandon Lewis was recently named the new Director of The Helis Foundation John Scott Center in New Orleans. Lewis is an established museum educator, and he most recently served as educator and public programs manager for the LSU Museum of Art. He was previously the district fine arts director for the City of Baker School System in East Baton Rouge Parish.

LASM is also proud to feature Lewis’ artwork in its current exhibition Improvisation: The Art and Healing Power of Jazz on display in The Republic Finance Gallery. Lewis, who said he is excited to embark with locals on a meaningful journey of self-discovery and celebration, is “blessed with the ability to create art that pays homage to [his] heritage.” “I'm truly excited to join forces with my friends at LASM, fostering connections within our community through the transformative lens of artistic exploration,” Lewis said.

The class is tailored for individuals aged 18 and older. Provided with art materials by LASM, the workshops will take place in LASM classrooms from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Non-members can attend for $55, while LASM members enjoy a discounted price of $45.

LASM’s “Studio Saturdays” are supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, as administered by the RAC. Funding has also been provided by the National Endowment of the Arts and funded in part by the Alma Lee, Norman and Cary Saurage Fund of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation on behalf of Cary Saurage.
