Studio Saturday Plein Air Painting Workshop with Ellen Ogden

On November 9 at 10 AM - 2 PM, this Studio Saturday 4 hr art class will begin with an advanced introduction to Plein Air Painting techniques with Ellen Odgen. Students will learn color theory, light logic, and atmospheric perspective. This class will focus on the basics of painting with oils and the practice of Plein Air. Each student will create their own plein air painting outside of the museum during the workshop.

What is "plein air?" Plein-air painting is the practice of painting outdoors with the subject in full view. The term comes from the French phrase plein air, which means "out of doors."

The museum will provide all materials for this workshop. Tabletop easels will also be provided; however, students are welcome to bring their own easels from home.

Ellen Ogden is a Baton Rouge artist behind many of the vibrant murals and whimsical sign art around town. Her lively creations have been painted on the windows and walls of businesses like Wanderlust by Abby, The Royal Standard, Hey Penelope, MJ’s Cafe, Pure Barre Baton Rouge and Olive or Twist.

Ogden has been passionate about art for as long as she can remember. She studied painting and art history at LSU. In 2016, she got her start in painting murals at Trader Joe’s in Metairie. From that year on, she painted dozens of murals around Louisiana. She is thrilled to be teaching this fun and creative plein air workshop at LASM.

Tickets are $65 for members and $85 for non-members.
