Studio Saturday: Botanical Painting Art Workshop with Beth Welch

The Louisiana Art & Science Museum (LASM) will hold its next Studio Saturday Art Workshops on Saturday, June 15, featuring local artist Beth Welch. Two adult workshops will be held where students create original paintings inspired by LASM’s exhibition, Artistry and Accuracy: Botanical Illustrations by Margaret Stones. There will be two painting classes offered: one at 10:00 AM and the second at 1:00 PM.

Beth Welch has been involved in the Baton Rouge arts community for over 10 years. She is a Baton Rouge Gallery artist and has been exhibited with museums and galleries across the United States. Welch creates realistic drawings and paintings, often conveying the intricacies of memory in the context of motherhood.

Both classes are designed for individuals ages 14 and above who are interested in expanding their knowledge of the natural world around them through observational drawing and painting. Also led by Welch, known for her attention to detail, students will be guided through her creative process and work with Golden acrylic paints to practice observational painting.

With art materials provided by LASM, the workshops will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM in classrooms at LASM, with a $55 admission price for non-members and a $45 admission price for LASM members.

LASM’s “Studio Saturdays” are supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, as administered by the RAC. Funding has also been provided by the National Endowment of the Arts and funded in part by the Alma Lee, Norman and Cary Saurage Fund of the Baton Rouge Area Foundation on behalf of Cary Saurage.
