Enter a recreated tomb that houses…

Enter a recreated tomb that houses an authentic, 2,300-year-old mummified person, and learn how modern technology revealed some of its secrets. Your students will learn about the ancient Egyptians’ civilization, beliefs, and customs, and how these people interacted with their Greek and Roman neighbors during the Ptolemaic period (323-30 BC). Your students will also view authentic masks worn by mummified people and learn about ancient Egyptian funerary customs. We strongly recommend booking the King Tut Exhibition Guided Tour AND the Ancient Egypt Gallery Guided Tour.

How do astronomers discover the chemical composition of faraway stars and nebulae? In this hands-on experience, your students will observe gas tubes in a spectroscope to compare the unique spectral lines of common gases.

While also engaging with prisms and diffraction glasses, your students will investigate the properties of light related to the visible light spectrum. The scientific concepts of refraction, diffraction, and reflection are explored with engaging activities related to the electromagnetic spectrum through real-life applications.

Your students will learn about ancient Egyptian customs and explore certified Egyptian replicas of the opulent artifacts found in King Tut’s tomb, which was the first known, mostly undisturbed ancient Egyptian royal burial site. This exciting program includes a visit to the LSU Center for River Studies and same-day, hands-on classes and programs at LASM. All activities are aligned with the Louisiana Student Standards for Science.

  • Tour of the LSU Center for River Studies – Students will explore a 3-dimensional model of the lower 190 miles of the Mississippi River, one of the most technologically advanced models in existence.
  • Hands-On Stream Table at LASM – Your students will collaboratively design solutions to real-world environmental challenges by engaging with a state-of-the-art stream table.
  • Educational Movie at LASM – Your students will view a related, large-screen educational movie at LASM.

This FREE learning opportunity is available to 4th through 12th-grade students on a first-come, first-served basis through LASM’s partnership with the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA).
