Working with daguerreotype master Jerry Spagnoli to conquer the complexities
of this venerable process, which yields images of astonishing detail and
gravity, Chuck Close photographed many of the same artist-friends who
have made regular appearances in his paintings over the years. Each image
is complemented by a poem on its subject by Bob Holman, the celebrated
and widely published New York School poet who originated and hosted the
famous Poetry Slams at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe and now runs the Bowery
Poetry Club. This clothbound edition preserves a luxurious sensibility
with 22 extraordinary oversized daguerreotypes printed in rich tritone.

Josephine, the Great Love of Napoleon

Includes journal entries on the French Revolution, the renowned empress,
her marriage to Napoleon I, their ascent to power, and their personal
life at Malmaison. Produced in conjunction with the 2003 exhibition, which
was part of the Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Celebration and which
was organized bt the Stewart Museum at the Fort, Ile de Sait Helene, Canada,
and Louisiana Art and Science Museum. Twenty-three illustrations of objects
from the exhibition, most from the collection of the Musee National des
Chateaux de Malmaison et Bois-Preau, France. Soft cover 8.5" x 11",
