The Perseid Meteor Shower: A Live Presentation
Wednesday, August 11, 7:00 - 8:00 PM

Perseids

Every August, the Perseid Meteor Shower lights up the sky as the earth passes through the leftover debris of a comet orbiting the sun. The result is a spectacular display of some 100 or more meteors, or shooting stars, per hour. In this live presentation, planetarium director Jon Elvert explores why the Perseid Meteor Shower is the year's premier meteor event, what comets are and where they come from, and the difference between meteorites and asteroids. Included is a tour of the seasonal night sky identifying constellations and visible planets. Regular admission rates apply. Advance tickets on sale at the LASM box office beginning July 26.
