Earth-Sun-Moon

Show Description

This 60-minute interactive program focuses on how the Earth, Sun, and Moon interact with each other. Using a hands-on approach, students demonstrate the lunar phases, eclipses, and distances between the earth and our moon. A presenter-led tour of the current night sky, and the 25-minute show Earth's Wild Ride is also included.
Grade Level: 3–8

Grade 4
ESS-E-B2 Describe and sequence the phases of the Moon and eclipses.
ESS-E-B2 Compare a solar and a lunar eclipse.
ESS-E-B2 Diagram the movement of the Moon around Earth and the movement of Earth around the Sun.
ESS-E-B3 Explain the changing appearance of the Moon and its location in the sky over the course of a month.
ESS-E-B4 Identify the relationship between Earth’s tilt and revolution and the seasons.

Grades 5–8
SI-M-A1 Generate testable questions about objects and events that can be answered through scientific investigation.
SI-M-A5 Use evidence to make inferences and predict trends.

Grade 8
ESS-M-C1 Explain why the Moon, Sun, and stars appear to move from east to west across the sky.
ESS-M-C4 Identify and illustrate the relative positions of Earth, the Moon, and the Sun during eclipses and phases of the Moon.
ESS-M-C7 Explain how seasonal changes are caused by the tilt of Earth as it rotates on its axis and revolves around the Sun.
ESS-M-C7 Illustrate and explain how the angle at which sunlight strikes Earth produces changes in the seasons and length of daylight.
