50 Years of Collecting

50 Years of Collecting

October 6, 2012- January 6, 2013

Celebrate LASM’s 50 year anniversary of serving the Baton Rouge community as we showcase many of the objects from our collection of over 3000 objects. Students and teachers alike will marvel at the eclectic objects presented in a manner inspired by the 16th century wunderkammer (wonder chamber). Predating museums, aristocrats, princes and churches would display their collections of treasures and artifacts in wonder chambers placing items in a manner meant to create awe and wonder. Our anniversary exhibition objects will be grouped in an interdisciplinary way and under the traditional 16th century categories of Naturalia, Artificialia, Scientifica, Ethnographica, Antiquities, and Mirabilia. This exhibition will reveal LASM’s history, pique imaginations, and entice your students to make connections between seemingly unrelated objects. Curated by LASM.
