Ancient Egypt Gallery

Ancient Egypt Gallery

This gallery explains the unique civilization of the ancient Egyptians during the Ptolemaic period (323–30 BC), when Egypt was under Greek rule. Students enter a re-creation of a tomb, ca. 300 BC, which houses a 2,300-year-old mummy. Among the fascinating topics introduced to them are Egyptian burial customs and the use of technology to reveal some of the mummy’s secrets. This is one of the few permanent exhibits dedicated to ancient Egypt in the Gulf South.
