Making Bad Astronomy Good: The Importance of Astronomy in Everyday Life

Friday, February 1, 2013, 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM
$25 registration fee–includes lunch and workshop supplies
Intended audience: 4th-8th grade teachers

Join us for this exciting and informative astronomy workshop conducted by Dr. Larry Krumenaker, the popular Marietta, Ga. astronomer, educator and publisher of the quarterly magazine “The Classroom Astronomer-a practitioner’s journal for teachers of astronomy”.

With Dr. Larry we will take a critical look at popular myths and misconceptions and connect non-astronomy topics to everyday astronomy while learning unique approaches to teaching your students.

Many LASM school programs provide educational activities that can be used in your classroom both before and after your museum visit. We love seeing pictures of your students enjoying their visit to LASM! If you would like to share your pictures, or allow us to photograph your students, please follow these three easy steps:

Click here to download photo release forms. Fill out one release form for each student. Note that they must be signed by the student's parent or guardian. Bring these with you on the day of your visit.

The Museum Store

The Museum Store at LASM encourages visits from student groups. It contains a large assortment of educational and interesting items starting at just $1.00.

Allowing students to shop gives them the chance to make independent decisions, helps teach them the concept of budget management, and improves their math and social skills.

All sales profits from The Museum Store help maintain museum exhibits and support future endeavors. We would greatly appreciate your support!
